Adeline Divoux, PhD

Dr. Adeline Divoux is a scientist who specializes in the biology of adipose tissue, particularly in the human obesity field. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI-MD). Dr. Divoux is currently PI of a clinical protocol studying the influence of epigenetic mechanisms on the differentially repartition of adipose tissue (abdominal versus gluteal depot). Coupled with her basic experience, new and emerging tools and approaches (such as next-generation sequencing) available via her collaborators at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, she is at a great position to explore the epigenetic regulation of human adipose tissue.   

Dr. Divoux was born in Paris, France. She completed her master of Sciences at Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris, France with specialization in Integrative biology and physiology. Her training in the field of obesity research started as a PhD student in Dr. Karine Clement’s laboratory in Paris, France. Dr. Divoux’s research focused on adipose tissue inflammation and remodeling, both occurring during obesity. She published intensively during these four years (see ref. 2-11) and acquired the specific techniques required for human adipose tissue manipulation. She also co-supervised the European project ADAPT (Adipokines as Drug Targets to Combat Adverse Effects of Excess Adipose Tissue). In 2010, she obtained financial support from the French organization “Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale” to finish her research in Paris.

Dr. Divoux expanded her research in an industrial environment to study the influence of hypocaloric diet with low glycemic index on satiety, inflammatory status and intestinal flora. As a result of this experience, she learned how to manage a project with constraints such as short timelines, stringent legislations and limited budgets.
