Heather Cornnell, PhD

Heather is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/S) Research Scientist at the Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI).  She is responsible for developing and implementing research protocols using imaging and multinuclear (1H, 31P and 13C) spectroscopy to measure chemical and metabolic processes in human tissue (muscle, adipose, cardiac etc.) noninvasively.

 

 Heather’s graduate work focused on characterizing different types of MR contrast agents (CAs) including traditional agents (gadolinium based CAs and iron oxide) and newly developed PARACEST (paramagnetic chemical exchange saturation transfer) agents.  Her work involved using the CAs at multiple magnetic field strengths (up to 21.1 T) at the Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (AMRIS) facility, part of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at the University of Florida.  Heather completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship at the Moffitt Cancer Research Institute, using multiple imaging modalities, including MRI, ultrasound and bioluminescence, to investigate cancer imaging, track progression of disease, and monitor/compare singular and combination treatment regimes.      

Heather earned her Ph.D. from the department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida.
